Ben Liney works on the lands of the Bunurong. Grounded in close observation of the landscape, his practice reflects a quiet attentiveness to the rhythms of the natural world—offering restrained, intimate perspectives shaped by a deep connection to place.

Through oil painting, he explores the untouched beauty of the land, revealing the quiet energy within stillness—an unseen force that shapes both our surroundings and inner worlds. His work reflects on the passage of time, with rock formations standing as silent witnesses to history, holding traces of memory within their surfaces.

Often set against vast, open spaces, these enduring forms are stripped of their surroundings to emphasise their presence and permanence. In isolating these elements, he magnifies their intricate textures and subtle details, inviting contemplation of nature’s quiet endurance. His paintings foster an immersive connection to place—prompting reflection on our relationship with the land, the weight of time, and the delicate ways memory is held in the landscape.

Ben is represented in Sydney by Traffic Jam Galleries.
